Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over an alleged plan to disrupt voting in his hometown, Ede, during Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke spoke shortly after casting his ballot at Unit 9, Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area.
The governor alleged that a police officer identified as “London” had been brought from Port Harcourt to Osun State to interfere with the voting process in Ede.
He urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and other security agencies to take note of the allegation and “do the needful”.
“I understand that the APC brought him to Osun State to carry out a hatchet job and cause disruption in my town, Ede, so that people will not be able to vote. I want the IGP, the Police Commissioner for the election, the DIG for the election, and all security agencies to take note and do the needful,” Adeleke said.
The governor also alleged that there was an attempt to bypass the established collation process, which involves the movement of results from polling units to wards and subsequently to local government areas, in favour of taking the process directly to a collation centre.
He insisted that the prescribed electoral procedure must be followed, saying, “This is not acceptable. They must follow the rules, and that is why I am alerting my people to watch out”.
Adeleke called on residents of Ede to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process while expressing confidence in his chances of securing victory.
“I know that, by the special grace of God, I will win this election,” he said.
