Over 8,400 delegates set for APC national convention in Abuja

No fewer than 8,433 delegates are expected to attend the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Eagle Square in Abuja.

The delegates will be led by President Bola Tinubu, alongside 31 governors and members of the federal executive council.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a meeting with journalists at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, where he outlined preparations for the convention scheduled for March 27 and 28.

Idris, who is Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, highlighted the party’s readiness in terms of logistics, coordination, and communication strategy ahead of the event.

He urged committee members to collaborate effectively to ensure the success of the convention.

“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” he said.

The minister also stressed the importance of maintaining strong internal democratic values within the party.

“As party members, we must reflect a significant attribute of our president,” Idris added.

He described the convention as a crucial step in strengthening the party’s internal structures and democratic processes.

The APC has already indicated that it will adopt a consensus approach in selecting its national leadership during the convention.

Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, Mary Ikoku, noted that while consensus will guide leadership selection, decisions on elective positions during primaries may vary depending on local political dynamics.

The convention will bring together key stakeholders, including governors and members of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee, as well as top government officials.

Among those present at the planning meeting were the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; and Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare.

The convention is expected to produce new national executives who will steer the affairs of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections and oversee the conduct of party primaries for key elective positions.
