Oyo assembly majority leader quits PDP

The Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adedoyin’s exit brings the number of PDP lawmakers who have resigned from the party in the state assembly to four.

The lawmaker representing Ogbomoso South announced in a statement signed in Ibadan on Friday that he would be joining the Allied Peoples Movement following the unresolved leadership crisis rocking the PDP.

He said the decision came after extensive reflection and consultations, stressing that it was driven by his commitment to credible opposition politics.

The two-term legislator also accused the ruling party at the federal level of contributing to the instability within the opposition party.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that three other lawmakers resigned from the PDP-controlled assembly on Thursday over the same internal crisis. The assembly previously consisted of 28 PDP members and four lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress.

One of the lawmakers, Mrs Bisi Oluranti (PDP-Ogbomoso North), said the lingering crisis within the party had weakened its stability and influenced her decision to leave.

Oluranti requested that her name and personal details be removed from the PDP database to allow her pursue her political ambitions through another platform.

She also hinted at a possible move to the Allied Peoples Movement while reaffirming loyalty to Seyi Makinde, stating that she would eventually align with whichever political direction the governor takes.

Another lawmaker, Mr Waheed Akintayo (PDP-Oluyole), also demanded the removal of his details from the PDP membership register.

Similarly, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Mr Yusuf Adebisi (PDP-South-West), attributed his resignation to the unresolved internal crisis within the party.

Adebisi stated that the prolonged turmoil had made it impossible for him to continue his political activities under the PDP platform.
