Oyo orders traders to vacate walkways

The Oyo State Government has ordered traders, artisans, motor dealers, and vendors operating on pedestrian walkways and roadside areas to vacate those spaces or face sanctions.

The directive was given on Friday by the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) Chairman, Major Adesagba Adekoya (retd), at his office in the secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital.

“Using walkways for business is illegal and creates traffic bottlenecks, accidents, and inconvenience for shoppers,” Adesagba stated.

He highlighted areas such as the University of Ibadan, Samonda, and Mokola as hotspots for illegal trading.

“Traders are required to relocate to designated market spaces immediately, especially during the festive period,” he added, cautioning that defaulters would face fines and court appearances.

The state government praised OYRTMA’s initiatives to enhance road safety and public order, reaffirming its dedication to improving infrastructure and ensuring safe movement across Oyo State.
