Peter Obi suspends weekend engagements over health concerns

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has announced the suspension of his planned activities both within and outside Nigeria this weekend, citing medical advice.

Obi revealed the update in a post on X on Saturday, explaining that after speaking at a tourism event in Enugu on Friday, he fell ill.

He said he visited a hospital where he received treatment and was instructed to rest for at least two days.

“In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” Obi wrote.

“I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding.”

The former governor of Anambra state also noted that on Friday, he visited Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South LGA of Anambra, which is being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Anglican Church.

He added that he made an “initial modest contribution” of N10 million to support the diocese’s plan to revitalise the hospital and establish a school of nursing, midwifery, and health technology.

“Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Faith-based organisations have shown, time and again, that with the right support, they can deliver excellence,” Obi said.

“Together, we can build a healthier Nigeria.”

Obi later travelled to Owerri, Imo state, where he attended a dinner hosted by Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of his former boss, Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna state.
