The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, has seized three exotic vehicles and assorted contraband goods worth over ₦1.4bn.

The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this during a press briefing at Idiroko on Thursday.

The seized vehicles include a 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost valued at ₦905m, a 2014 4Matic Mercedes-Benz worth ₦21.4m, and a 2018 Honda Accord valued at ₦32.2m.

Other items impounded were 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice (equivalent to over seven truckloads), 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, and 105 used tyres. The total duty paid value of all seizures stood at ₦1,401,531,923.95.

Otunla stressed that the interceptions reflected the Command’s determination to combat smuggling and protect the national economy, vowing that officers would not yield to the tricks of “recalcitrant economic saboteurs.”

He also revealed that the Command generated ₦45,054,191 in July 2025, representing a 27.47% increase compared to ₦35,327,852 recorded in July 2024.

In line with inter-agency collaboration, Otunla handed over the seized narcotics to the NDLEA Idiroko Special Command for further investigation.

The Controller warned smugglers and their collaborators to desist, declaring:

“We remain vigilant, resolute, and unyielding. No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you.”

He commended his officers for their resilience, thanked other security agencies for their support, and praised border communities for providing credible intelligence that strengthened operations.
