The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has honoured Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin with a ₦30 million cash reward and a house at Sunshine Estate in Oba-Ile, Akure, in recognition of her outstanding performance at the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The governor made the announcement on Monday during a civic reception in Akure held for Ondo State indigenes who were part of the victorious Super Falcons squad at the tournament in Morocco last month.

In addition to Demehin’s reward, Aiyedatiwa also gifted ₦15 million each to Mary Akinsola, the team’s media officer, and Mary Oduboku, the team’s secretary, in acknowledgment of their vital roles in Nigeria’s historic triumph.

Demehin, an Ilaje Local Government Area native who played a key defensive role throughout the tournament, was hailed by the governor as a symbol of talent, discipline, and resilience.

The governor also commended the efforts of Akinsola and Oduboku, both from the southern senatorial district, for their crucial support in the Super Falcons’ success and reiterated his administration’s dedication to sports development and youth empowerment.

During the event, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Henry Segun, assured the governor that sports in the state would continue to thrive with consistent support and strategic investment.

Dele Sunday Ajayi, Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association, lauded Aiyedatiwa for being the first state governor to honour Super Falcons players and officials from the state, noting that the gesture would inspire aspiring athletes.

In her response, Tosin Demehin expressed deep gratitude to the governor and the people of Ondo State for the warm reception and generous reward.
