The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Nigerians to promote peace, unity and mutual understanding as the country tackles its various challenges.

He made the appeal on Wednesday while receiving the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, alongside members of his delegation, during a courtesy visit to his palace in Sokoto.

The Sultan highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in nation-building, noting that traditional institutions had significant roles to play in fostering peaceful coexistence, national unity and sustainable development.

He said, “Peace, unity and mutual understanding are essential for addressing the challenges facing our nation. We must all embrace collective responsibility towards building a better society.”

He also urged Nigerians to cooperate across political, religious and ethnic divides in the interest of the country.
