President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday left Abuja for a historic state visit to the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.
The presidential aircraft departed from the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 10:00am.
According to the presidency, Tinubu is travelling with the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for the visit, which will include a series of high-level engagements.
As part of the trip, King Charles III will host the president and the First Lady at Windsor Castle from March 18 to March 19. The visit represents the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom in 37 years and the first time a Nigerian president will be received by a British monarch at Windsor Castle.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the visit is expected to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
He added that discussions during the visit will centre on key areas including immigration, trade, investment, and cultural cooperation.
