Police arrest 55-year-old man for impregnating 15-year-old in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, in connection with an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this on Monday, stating that the suspect is accused of impregnating a 15-year-old minor.

Jimoh explained that the matter was reported to the police on January 4 by one Adewale of Ilara-Mokin, who alleged that the suspect had been involved in unlawful sexual relations with his sister’s daughter.

According to him, the complainant said the offence came to light during investigations into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s pregnancy.

“Upon receipt of this disturbing report, the case was immediately referred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the command for discreet and thorough investigation.

“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“Meanwhile, the command reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children.

“It is also to ensure that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are made to face the full weight of the law without compromise,” he said.

Jimoh noted that the arrest was in line with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, whose reform-oriented leadership, he said, continues to reinforce gender-sensitive policing.

He added that the IGP’s vision focuses on promoting accountability and strengthening strategic responses to sexual and gender-based violence across the country.

According to him, the Ondo State Police Command remains committed to translating this vision into concrete actions that foster public confidence and improve community safety.

The spokesperson also commended members of the public for their prompt and courageous reporting of such incidents.

He urged residents to stay vigilant and continue providing credible and actionable information to the police to enable swift intervention.

“Together, we can build a safer society for our children and generations unborn,” he said.
