Police arrest cultists in brothel raid

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a firearm and ammunition during a raid on a brothel in Ikot-Udota, Eket Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Uyo, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, stated that officers carried out the operation at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday following intelligence that expelled students had formed a terror group involved in various criminal activities, including extortion, rape, and cybercrime.

The police arrested Uwemedimo Michael Udah (29) from Uyo Local Government Area and Prince Emmanuel Amasi-Tito (32) from Eleme Local Government Area in Rivers State.

Recovered items included:

  • One English Beretta pistol

  • Three rounds of 9mm live ammunition

  • One laptop

  • Two Android phones

  • An MTN internet router

  • A mix of suspected illicit drug substances

  • Three copies of a suspected stolen power of attorney

The statement read in part:
“On Thursday, 31st July 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers arrested two suspected cultists and seized a firearm, ammunition, and several items during a raid on a hotel in Ikot-Udota, Eket LGA.”

According to DSP John, preliminary investigations revealed that the gang is headed by two suspects currently at large—Etieno Gideon James and an individual known only as ‘Ale’.

She credited the success of the operation to the Command’s ongoing commitment to protecting public safety and confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
