Police arrest man for allegedly killing mother in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Samuel Akoade, for allegedly hacking his mother, Olufunke Akoade, to death in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at about 5pm in the Powerline area of the community.

The suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete, inflicting deep injuries that resulted in her death.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said Akoade was in police custody.

Jimoh said the police received a report that the woman had been found lying in a pool of blood at her residence.

According to him, preliminary information indicated that the victim sustained deep machete wounds and was already dead when she was discovered.

Following the report, police operatives from the Ore Division mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigations.

A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the scene was photographed and documented by investigators.

The police spokesman said the suspected assailant, who was initially identified simply as Samuel, had fled the scene before the arrival of the police.

He added that sustained efforts by the operatives later led to the arrest of Samuel Akoade.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect remains in police custody.

The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The police commissioner further ordered that anyone found culpable should be brought to justice.

The command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to provide timely information about suspicious activities in their communities.
