Police arrest motorcyclist carrying suspected wife’s corpse in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reported the arrest of a motorcyclist found transporting a fresh corpse believed to be that of his wife.

The suspect was apprehended during a stop-and-search operation in the Ilaro area of Yewa South Local Government Area.

The development was disclosed in a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in Abeokuta, the state capital.

“The Ogun State Police Command has once again underscored the importance of routine stop-and-search operations, as proactive policing led to the uncovering of a suspected murder incident in Ilaro,” she said.

She added, “On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at about 1305hrs, the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received credible information that a suspected felon, Godonu Lowe ‘m’ of Omolende Village via Idogo, was transporting the corpse of an unknown woman on a motorcycle in an attempt to escape from the community.”

Acting on the tip-off, police intercepted the suspect and untied a sack secured to the back of his motorcycle.

“The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later identified as his wife. The body bore marks of violence, bleeding around the neck, suggesting foul play. A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the crime scene,” the PPRO stated.

The prime suspect was taken into custody, while the victim’s remains were evacuated to the State Morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy.

Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the anonymous informant and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid in crime detection and prevention.
