Police arrest suspect over youth clash death in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command on Monday arrested one Giwa Sodiq over a violent confrontation that resulted in the death of Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo,” in Asalu Community, Lalupon, located in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan, the state capital, it was disclosed that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.

Ayanlade stated that preliminary findings indicated that community leaders had earlier reported the incident to the Iyana-Offa Police Division after being alerted by local security guards about a confrontation involving a group of youths in the community while residents were asleep.

He added that those who sustained injuries during the incident were immediately taken to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, for treatment.

Ayanlade said, “The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, for medical attention, where one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as ‘Ogo Ojigbo,’ later succumbed to his injuries.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Supol Iyana-Offa, promptly proceeded to the scene and the hospital. Photographs were taken for documentation purposes, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident.

“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects to ensure full prosecution,” he stated.

The statement further revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, commended the officers for their quick response and urged residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious or criminal activities.

“He (CP) also appeals to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward and assist the Police,” he said.

The police command also called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies in order to maintain safety and security across communities.
