Police arrest suspected Cattle rustler in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered two cows along with a Toyota vehicle allegedly used in the crime in Suru Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar said in a statement on Tuesday that the arrest followed actionable intelligence which led a patrol team to intercept the suspect, Basiru Abdullahi, on 27 August 2025 at about 11:00 p.m. in Suru District.

Abdullahi was found in possession of two cows suspected to have been stolen. During interrogation, he confessed to conspiring with four others — Garba Chairman Datti, Ja’e Ango, and two accomplices still at large — to steal three cows belonging to Sarkin Fulani Usman of Suru.

The rustled cows were reportedly sold for ₦500,000 to a buyer in Jega, while another accomplice, Naziru Danmanu, remains on the run. A green Toyota vehicle with registration number Naija-Minna 708XB, used in the operation, was also recovered.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commending the Divisional Police Officer in Suru, Commissioner of Police Bello Sani praised the officers’ professionalism and swift action. He assured residents of the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks in the state and urged the public to remain vigilant by providing timely information to security agencies.
