The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man from Isare Street, Efon-Ekiti, suspected to be a member of a cult group.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested at about 11:45pm following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Efon Division regarding his presence within the town.
“Upon receipt of the information, operatives immediately commenced investigation which led to his arrest. A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him,” the statement said.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ado-Ekiti, for further investigation.
The commissioner assured residents that the command remained committed to preventing cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to the police.
It added that discreet monitoring and security operations were ongoing across the state to identify and prevent criminal activities.
