Police arrest taxi driver over alleged serial rape, assault in Lagos

Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos, have apprehended a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, for allegedly perpetrating a series of rapes, assaults, and armed robberies targeting female passengers across the state.

The suspect, whose image recently circulated widely on social media after multiple victims raised alarms, was arrested on October 31 following a detailed investigation ordered by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohuntare Jimoh.

Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest, adding that officers recovered a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, reportedly used by Adegbola to carry out the crimes. The car has been taken into custody as evidence.

The police said Adegbola is currently in detention while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspected accomplices linked to the attacks. Victims have been urged to come forward and assist investigators, with assurances that their identities will be protected.

CP Jimoh reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors and maintaining the safety of all residents in Lagos. He also promised that further updates on the investigation would be made public in due course.
