The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the arrests followed an investigation into a culpable homicide case reported on June 25, 2026.
According to the statement, detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lokoja launched a comprehensive investigation after receiving the report, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The police said investigations revealed that on June 17, 2026, Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary action she had taken against his 11-year-old son during school hours.
The statement added that later the same day, while Usman was on her way to the mosque, she was allegedly assaulted again by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
Police further alleged that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, identified as the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School and assaulted the teacher at her workplace.
According to the police, the victim was initially treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka before being referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical attention. She later died from her injuries on June 25, 2026.
The command said its investigation established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects, identified as Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.
“Consequently, the investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” Afusat said.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, commended detectives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for their professionalism and diligence during the investigation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice and urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful means while continuing to provide the police with timely and credible information to support crime prevention.
