Police arrest tiler over hotel staff’s death in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a tiler, Samuel Net, over the suspected killing of a hotel staff member in the Utako District of Abuja.

The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, stating that the Utako Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report from the hotel in the early hours of Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to the police, officers dispatched to the scene discovered Net, who had been engaged by the hotel to carry out tiling work, with marks of violence on his body. Another individual, identified as Joseph Terdoo, a staff member of the hotel, was also found unconscious on the floor with multiple marks of violence.

Terdoo was immediately taken to Wuse District Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.

The statement partly read, “On Tuesday, 20th October 2026, at about 05:00 am, a distress report was received at Utako Divisional Police Headquarters reporting suspicious noise and activity on the third floor of a hotel within Utako District of the FCT. Responding swiftly, a team of police officers from Utako Division was promptly dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the source of the noise was traced to Room 301, where one Samuel Net, a tiler hired by the hotel, was found with marks of violence on his body, while another person, identified as Joseph Terdoo, a staff member of the hotel, was found lying unconscious on the floor with multiple marks of violence on his body.

“Joseph Terdoo was immediately rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by the medical team on duty.”

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the two men had a disagreement that escalated into a physical altercation.

According to the statement, Net allegedly pushed Terdoo, causing him to fall and hit his head against a wooden object before collapsing.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, urged residents to “shun violence and self-help during disagreements.”

He also encouraged residents to embrace peaceful and diplomatic approaches to resolving disputes.

The command further advised members of the public to report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or contact its emergency lines on 08032003913 and 08061581938.
