The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a gang over alleged criminal conspiracy, assault and thuggery in Bununu town, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.
The command also apprehended another suspect in Dambam Local Government Area over alleged criminal conspiracy, house trespass, armed robbery and causing grievous hurt.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.
Habib said the Bununu incident occurred on August 17, 2026, when police operatives on routine patrol spotted a group of hoodlums attacking three residents.
According to him, the victims, aged 30, 31 and 28, sustained injuries to their heads and other parts of their bodies.
He said the intervention of the patrol team led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as 23-year-old Ibrahim Hassan and 22-year-old Bilal Hassan, both residents of Bununu.
“The other members of the gang fled the scene,” the statement read.
Police also recovered a sharp knife and a sharp-edged animal horn, locally known as kaho, from the suspects.
Habib said the suspects confessed during interrogation, while the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Bununu, for treatment and were in stable condition.
He added that normalcy had returned to the community, with additional police personnel deployed to maintain surveillance and prevent further breaches of peace.
In a separate incident in Dambam, Habib said a 30-year-old resident of Luchambi Village, Gargawa District, reported that three armed men broke into his home around 2am on August 8, 2026, allegedly with the intention of robbing him.
The attackers reportedly injured the complainant’s five-year-old daughter on the hand before fleeing empty-handed after the victim raised an alarm that attracted neighbours.
The PPRO said police, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one of the suspects, 25-year-old Abdullahi Ahmed of Lamba Village, Dagauda District, Dambam LGA, on August 16 at about 6pm after the complainant identified him.
“Acting on credible information, a team of police operatives swung into action. On 16th August 2026 at about 1800hrs, the complainant identified one of the suspects as Abdullahi Ahmed, a 25-year-old male, of Lamba Village, Dagauda District, Dambam LGA. He was promptly arrested,” Habib stated.
Ahmed allegedly confessed during interrogation and identified two other accomplices, Idi and Bappayo, whose full names remain unknown.
The two suspects, both reportedly from Potiskum, Yobe State, are still at large, while police efforts to apprehend them continue.
Habib said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered thorough investigations into the cases and directed that the suspects be charged to court upon completion of the investigations.
The commissioner also warned that the command would not tolerate thuggery, hooliganism or any violent conduct capable of threatening public peace in the state.
