Police arrest woman with firearms in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman in Oguda village, Okene, after recovering illegal firearms and other items in her possession.

Police operatives from the Okene Division carried out an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Yuwander Lodge on Friday, following a tip-off.

The suspect, identified as Charity Williams, was arrested in a room booked by one Christopher Christopher Kadiri, who remains at large. Officers recovered a locally made Beretta pistol, six rounds of 9mm live ammunition, hard drugs, an axe, four mobile phones, and ₦2,047,300 in cash.

Police spokesperson William Aya confirmed the arrest, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down Kadiri. “The suspect is in custody, and investigations are continuing,” he said.

In a separate operation, officers attached to the Ofu Division recovered a locally made barrel gun at Ogbakpedo village along the Itobe–Ayigba Road.

According to Aya, the recovery followed a tip-off that suspected kidnappers were hiding in the bush. On sighting a police patrol team, the suspects fled, abandoning a barrel gun, a cutlass, a mobile phone, and other items during the search of the area.

The police said both cases form part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal activities across Kogi State.
