The Kogi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the deaths of two officers, Amos Yusuf and Grace Onimisi, who were attached to the Ajaokuta Police Division.
Reports suggest that Yusuf allegedly shot and killed his female colleague, Onimisi, while they were on night duty before reportedly taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Saliu Oyiza Afusat, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, saying it occurred on Friday, October 23.
According to her, both officers were taken to different medical facilities immediately after the incident, but medical personnel later confirmed them dead.
“Their remains have been deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital,” she said.
Afusat added that one AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered from the scene of the incident.
She further disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID for an in-depth investigation.
While reports suggest that the two officers were lovers and may have had a misunderstanding before the incident, the police command urged the public not to jump to conclusions.
“The circumstances and motive remain subjects of investigation, and the Command will not speculate on matters yet to be established,” the statement added.
