Police confirm killing of Kwara farmer, launch investigation

The Kwara State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of a farmer, Azeez Garba, whose body was discovered with deep machete wounds on his farmland in Isin Local Government Area.

Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case, deploying intelligence and investigative resources to identify and arrest those responsible.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the victim’s body was found along the Owa-Onire axis, a boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin, after he failed to return home from his farm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that family members and local vigilantes began searching for Garba after he did not return. His motorcycle was later found parked at the farm, while his body was discovered a short distance away bearing fatal machete wounds.

The police described the killing as “cruel, senseless, and unacceptable,” assuring residents and the victim’s family that every available lead is being pursued.

No arrests have been made so far, but the command said efforts were ongoing to identify and prosecute everyone connected to the crime.

The development follows calls by the deceased’s family for justice. Speaking earlier, Garba’s daughter, Abdulazeez Rofiat, said local hunters found her father’s body after locating his motorcycle at the farm.

She appealed to security agencies to ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted, saying the family would continue to seek justice.
