Police declare two Rivers LG Officials wanted

The Rivers State Police Command has declared two senior officials of the Ahoada-East Local Government Area wanted over their alleged roles in the brutal assault on the council administrator, Goodluck Iheanachor.

The wanted officials — Chief Security Officer Hector Ekeakita and Chief of Staff Aloni Olodi — face charges including criminal conspiracy, stealing, assault occasioning harm, and attempted murder.

In a statement released by police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, the attack was said to have occurred on June 20, 2025 at the council secretariat, where approximately 30 individuals reportedly beat Iheanachor, inflicted injuries, stole his mobile phones and documents, and forced him to sign papers under duress before looting both personal and official items from his office.

Iheanachor is currently receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained in the attack.

Despite being formally invited by police for questioning, Ekeakita and Olodi failed to appear. Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, declared them wanted and urged them to report to the State Police Headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, immediately.

The Commissioner warned that anyone found harbouring or assisting the suspects would be prosecuted.

CSO Denies Involvement

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on 23 June, Hector Ekeakita denied involvement in the assault, stating, “As the Chief Security Officer, why would I organise an attack on the administrator I work with? I wasn’t even in the video.”

He claimed he was in his office when he heard the commotion and was told not to interfere.

“When I heard the noise from political appointees angry about unpaid May wages, I stepped in but was told to shut the door. I neither filmed nor attacked anyone. So how did I and the Chief of Staff become suspects?” he asked.

The incident sparked public outrage after a video circulated online, showing Iheanachor seated on the floor, visibly shaken and being repeatedly beaten with canes while unseen voices shouted at him to “sign that thing” and “put your signature”.

Controversy also followed reports of Iheanachor’s alleged resignation, though his assault has taken centre stage in the ongoing police investigation.
