The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that young residents of Nyanya, Abuja, had sold their kidneys for money.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to Adeh, the reports claimed that the police had confirmed allegations of young people in the Nyanya area selling their kidneys, with an alleged agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, said to be buying the organs.
She, however, said the FCT Police Command had no record of such a complaint and had not verified any report relating to the allegation.
“The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature.
“No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command,” she said.
Adeh urged residents to disregard the reports and avoid sharing unverified claims, warning that such information could create unnecessary fear and panic within the community.
