Police dismiss cult clash scare, boost security in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has debunked reports of an imminent cult-related clash in some parts of the state, describing the claims as false and urging residents to stay calm.

In a statement released on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi said the command had already taken proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the areas mentioned in the viral alert.

The message had cited locations such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and the Ishaga axis, allegedly warning of a retaliatory attack.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond,” the statement read.

According to the police, officers and operational resources were swiftly deployed to the identified areas and nearby communities after the report surfaced.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, also directed heightened security measures across the locations.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased police visibility across the identified flashpoints to ensure the safety of lives and property,” the statement added.

The command insisted that the areas remain secure, with sufficient security presence to deter criminal activity.

Reassuring residents, the police said there was no need for panic.

“Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful duties without fear or apprehension, as the Police and other security agencies remain fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and order,” the statement read.

The police also warned against spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear, urging the public to rely on official sources for updates and to report any suspicious activity through emergency channels.
