A Police Inspector serving in Rivers State, identified as Maxwell Zabu, has reportedly taken his own life.
The officer, attached to a former Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, allegedly shot himself on Sunday at his boss’s residence.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but it was reported to the Eagle Island Police Post under the Azikiwe Police Division in Illoabuchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Detectives from the Azikiwe Police Division have visited the scene as part of initial investigations.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that it is suspected to be a case of suicide, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for a thorough investigation.
