The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old woman suspected of trafficking ammunition to terrorists in areas notorious for criminal activities.

Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s spokesperson, revealed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday in Lafia, the state capital.

According to Nansel, the suspect, identified as Fatima Salisu from Funtua, Katsina State, was intercepted in the Azuba area of Lafia following credible intelligence.

She was reportedly transporting a significant quantity of ammunition through Keana and Doma Local Government Areas, allegedly intended for delivery to criminal groups in Katsina.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence tip-off, Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit,” Nansel said.

The operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, along with 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.

The suspect remains in custody and is undergoing interrogation as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the arms trafficking network and uncover links to armed banditry and terrorism.

Describing the arrest as a pivotal achievement in the fight against illegal arms proliferation and crime, the Nasarawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a crime-free state.

The Command also urged the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to aid in combating criminal activities.
