Police nab 50-year-old man over alleged defilement of two minors in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man identified simply as Godwin for allegedly defiling two minors in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Police operatives attached to the Eleme Police Division reportedly arrested the suspect at his residence on Monday after the parents of the girls, aged 13 and 11, filed a formal complaint.

The father of the older victim, identified as Cletus (other names withheld), alleged that the suspect usually sent the two children on errands before inviting them into his room after they returned with the items he requested.

“Then he (suspect) will lock the door, turn up the volume of his music and sexually assault the children,” he said.

Cletus further alleged that the suspect threatened the two underage girls with severe consequences if they revealed what had happened to anyone.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, said the suspect had been arrested and that investigations were still ongoing.

Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, added that the command was yet to receive the medical report issued to the girls’ parents, which would help determine the authenticity of the allegations.

She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. He is in our custody. However the police issued a medical form to enable the girls to go for examination.

“As I speak to you, we are still waiting for the results because it will show if there was penetration and so on. If that happens, then we (police) will transfer the case to the appropriate bureau.

“So, we are still investigating, and the form we have issued is part of that investigation.”
