The Katsina State Police Command has reported the successful arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of a significant quantity of tramadol tablets valued at ₦3,500,000. The suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, and investigations are currently ongoing.
This operation is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
One of the suspects, 27-year-old Murtala Salisu from Bare-bari village in Safana LGA, was apprehended by police on March 20, 2025, around 4:00 PM, based on credible intelligence. He was found with 2,084 sachets of suspected tramadol.
During questioning, Salisu admitted to acquiring the drugs from an individual named Rabe (a pseudonym) from Nasarawa State and also implicated Tanimu Abubakar of Jibia LGA as his accomplice.
In a statement released on Thursday, Katsina Police Command spokesman Abubakar Sadiq cited Police Commissioner Bello Shehu, who reiterated the command’s dedication to combating substance abuse, illicit drug trafficking, and related offenses, while also ensuring the safety of the citizens of Katsina State.
He encouraged the public to continue providing valuable and timely information to support efforts against all forms of crime.
In other news, the Katsina State Government has announced its partnership with Genesis Energy Group to implement a $500 million energy infrastructure investment as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed in London last month. This pilot project aims to decrease reliance on diesel generators, lower operational costs, and provide a stable power supply. Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, noted that this investment is one of the largest private sector-driven renewable energy initiatives in Northern Nigeria.
