Police nab three armed robbery suspects during night patrol in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers during a routine night patrol in the Idimu area of Lagos.

According to a post shared on the Command’s X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the arrest occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, around 2:00 a.m. Officers on patrol along Car Wash Bus Stop near First Bank intercepted three individuals riding a motorcycle.

The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Mustapha (20), Salisu Sannusi (30), and Jamiu Sahidu (26). Upon searching them, officers reportedly recovered a machete hidden in their possession, an army camouflage outfit, four mobile phones, a power bank, and cash believed to have been stolen. A Bajaj motorcycle with registration number AKD 40 OM was also seized.

Initial investigations suggest the suspects had been involved in multiple robbery operations, targeting unsuspecting victims before escaping on a motorcycle.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, said the arrest demonstrates the Command’s continued commitment to tackling crime and ensuring public safety across the state.

“The Lagos State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities across the State,” he said.

He added that the command will sustain its patrols and intelligence-driven operations to disrupt criminal networks.

“We are committed to safeguarding lives and property across the State,” the Commissioner said, urging residents to support security efforts by providing timely information.

Fatai also advised members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine the full scope of their alleged crimes and ensure they are prosecuted.
