Police offer financial assistance to Assaulted 10-year-old boy in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has provided financial assistance to support the urgent medical treatment of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardians in Isiowulu, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The child, whose condition drew public attention after a video showing burns and injuries across his body circulated on social media, is currently receiving medical care under the protection of the state. The injuries were allegedly inflicted by his female guardian and her husband.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command was moved to intervene after witnessing the extent of the boy’s injuries and suffering, prompting it to provide support for his treatment.

Ikenga noted that the gesture reflects the command’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society, particularly children, and ensuring that victims of abuse receive the care and assistance they need.

The statement read, “The Anambra State Police Command has provided financial support to facilitate urgent medical treatment of the 10-year old boy who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardian in Isiowulu, Anambra State.

“The Command, through its operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, Anambra State Command, while expressing concern after witnessing the severity of the child’s condition and pain, rendered support for his medical care and recovery.

“The gesture underscores the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the society, especially children and ensuring that victims of abuse receive the necessary care and support.
The Command has intensified its investigation into the incident and is committed to ensuring that all individuals found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

“The Police remain steadfast in enforcing laws designed to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of violence.”

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with relevant government agencies, child protection organisations and community stakeholders to promote and safeguard the rights, safety, and welfare of children throughout the State.

“The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice, compassion, and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police,” he added.
