The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into allegations of police harassment and abuse of power in Ogwashi-Uku following reports of a tragic incident involving a young man and the death of a security officer.
According to a post on X.com by civic platform Let’s Fix It Nigeria, residents of the community had raised concerns since Wednesday over alleged persistent police harassment in the area.
The situation reportedly escalated on Thursday after officers allegedly chased a young man who later fell into a well behind Mega Chiz in Ogwashi-Uku.
Although details surrounding the incident remained unclear at the time of reporting, residents alleged that security operatives were pursuing the young man before he fell into the well.
Reports also indicated that a security officer died during the incident, though the exact circumstances surrounding the death had not been independently confirmed.
The civic platform urged police authorities to investigate the matter, stating that residents deserved “safety, dignity, and accountability.”
Responding through X on Thursday, the police Complaint Response Unit confirmed that an investigation had commenced.
