The Sokoto State Police Command has recovered 43 sheep stolen by suspected bandits after foiling an attack on Anada Village in Binji Local Government Area.
Police said the attackers invaded the community at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, firing gunshots before carting away the livestock belonging to residents.
In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Ahmad Rufa’i, said the Divisional Police Officer in Binji immediately assembled a combined team of operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Viable Crime Response Unit to pursue the fleeing suspects.
He said, “The operatives swiftly blocked all possible escape routes and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle. Unable to withstand the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums abandoned the rustled sheep and fled into the surrounding forest.”
The statement added that the operation ended without any casualties among police personnel or members of the affected community.
The command also said security operatives are maintaining a manhunt in surrounding forests to track down the fleeing suspects and strengthen security against future attacks.
