The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the recovery of two “high-end” vehicles that were stolen in the Netherlands and transported to Nigeria.
In a statement released on Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the vehicles were recovered in Lagos and Akwa Ibom states. Investigations revealed that the vehicles had been stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland, before being shipped from the port of Antwerp in Belgium to Apapa, Lagos, in late 2023.
“Following the recovery, the Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL NCB Abuja, instituted civil forfeiture proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja,” the statement reads.
“Upon the conclusion of due legal processes, the Court granted a final forfeiture order in favour of the Government of the Netherlands through the vehicles’ insurance company, thereby facilitating their lawful repatriation.
“In furtherance of this process, the Nigeria Police Force INTERPOL team today, 20th October 2025, formally handed over the recovered vehicles to representatives of the insurance company and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria, marking the successful conclusion of the cross-border recovery and restitution effort.”
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended INTERPOL NCB Abuja operatives for their professionalism and collaboration with international partners, especially INTERPOL NCB The Hague.
He emphasized that the recovery and repatriation demonstrate the Force’s dedication to global law enforcement cooperation and its resolve to disrupt cross-border vehicle theft and smuggling networks.
The NPF reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing and stronger international collaborations in combating transnational organised crime.
