Police rescue kidnapped victim in Oyo

The Police Command in Oyo State has rescued one Haruna Lawal, who was abducted on Saturday at Olorunda Village, only hours after his kidnap.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday in Ibadan.

He explained that the swift rescue of the victim was made possible by the coordinated efforts of police operatives and the Command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property.

Olayinka said the Command received a distress call from the victim’s sister, Alimot, at about 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, reporting that suspected kidnappers armed with dangerous weapons had stormed her brother’s home.

“During the invasion, the assailants abducted Haruna Lawal (male) of Olorunda Village via Oyo and escaped with his motorcycle to an unknown location.

“Upon receipt of the report, and acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, operatives of the Command immediately swung into action and deployed to the area,” he said.

According to Olayinka, the rapid response, intensive bush-combing exercise, and the advance of Police patrol vehicles with sirens toward the suspects forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee.

He added that the abducted man was rescued alive but suffered a head injury during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Oyo.

Olayinka noted that efforts had been stepped up to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while investigations into the matter were ongoing.

He further reassured the public of the Command’s resolve to ensure criminals have no refuge in the State.

He therefore appealed to residents for continued cooperation by providing timely and credible information.
