Police rescue seven kidnap victims in Edo

Seven people kidnapped in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, have been freed by operatives of the state police command.

Deputy Public Relations Officer, Emem Ikoedem, confirmed the rescue in a statement on Saturday, noting that the victims were seized by gunmen while working on their farms in the Ikeken Forest.

According to Ikoedem, the abduction occurred on November 1, 2025, following a report by one Enoch Omozokpia that his 65-year-old father, William Omozokpia, and six others had been taken by the assailants.

The victims were identified as William Akhabue, Innocent Ebarekor, Rachel Ebarekor, Efuah Ebarekor, Winner Ebarekor, William Omozokpia, and Lucky Igiese, popularly known as Bulala.

According to Ikoedem, the victims were freed following a joint operation by the police, Nigerian Army, and local vigilantes led by the Divisional Police Officer in Ewohimi.

She said, “Operatives of the command have successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state.”

Ikoedem noted that all seven victims were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families.
