The Lagos State Police Command has shut down an illegal pharmaceutical operation in the Ojo–Ijanikin area and taken into custody the security guard found at the site.
The facility was allegedly producing large volumes of fake and dangerous drugs. The police have declared the property owner, identified only as Ebuka, wanted.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh said the raid dismantled a major source of counterfeit medications that posed significant public health dangers.
The illegal factory, located on the top floor of a multi-storey building, contained machines suspected to be used for producing fake drugs and manipulating product expiry dates.
Jimoh explained that the operation was based on credible intelligence from local divisional police officers, adding that another key suspect—referred to as ‘the developer’ and believed to be the financier of the factory—is being sought.
He further stated that the command would collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure full prosecution of those involved and widen investigations to other connected sites.
“Section 57 (Seizure) empowers officers to seize drugs, medicines, poisons and others found illegally.
“The Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, specifically Section 9, establishes the Nigeria Police Force Squad and empowers them to investigate fake drugs. This section allows the police to assist the Federal Task Force in enforcing the Act, arrest suspects, and conduct investigations,” Jimoh stated.
He urged residents to verify the authenticity of medicines they purchase, assuring the public that information shared with the police would remain confidential.
