Police step up patrols after health centre robbery in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has stepped up operations after a robbery incident at a health centre in “Oke Ijebu” during the early hours of Saturday.

In a statement issued by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Police Public Relations Officer, the command explained: “At about 2:00 a.m., three suspects armed with a pump-action rifle and cutlasses reportedly invaded the facility. The assailants gained access by scaling the perimeter fence.”

According to the police, the attackers stole personal items from three staff members, including mobile phones and a POS terminal. “The suspects reportedly arrived in an unregistered black Toyota Venza, which was parked along the main road before carrying out the operation. The victims were subsequently whisked away towards the Olokuta axis along Ondo Road,” the statement noted.

Reports also indicated that the victims were compelled to remove their clothing and were left in the bush before being rescued by nearby Correctional Service personnel.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, visited the location and ordered “a comprehensive and intelligence-driven investigation into the matter.” He also deployed tactical and surveillance teams to pursue the suspects and ensure their arrest.

The police assured the public that “adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence,” noting that patrol efforts have been increased and cooperation with other security agencies and local vigilante groups enhanced.

Residents were advised to “remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security agency.”
