Poly student killed in Bauchi robbery

Suspected robbers have stabbed to death a National Diploma II Mass Communication student of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, during an attempted robbery at an off-campus residence at about 2:40 a.m. on Friday.

An eyewitness, a female student living in the compound, said the two attackers scaled the back fence while carrying bright torchlights. The compound accommodates eight students, all from the institution.

“The robbers stormed one of the rooms where two male students were watching a film. The students tried to resist, but one of them was stabbed during the struggle,” she explained.

The injured student was rushed to hospital but later died from excessive bleeding.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, and the Rector of the polytechnic visited the scene and expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

“We have arrested some suspects in connection with the crime, and we will leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth,” Aliyu said.

He confirmed that additional police personnel had been deployed to the area and disclosed plans to establish a divisional police headquarters in the Wunti Dada community.

Aliyu also urged residents to promptly report suspicious activity or unknown individuals to the nearest police station.

The incident occurred less than two weeks after armed robbers attacked male students at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, sparking a student protest.
