Polytechnic Union issues 21-Day ultimatum

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has issued a fresh 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve all outstanding issues affecting its members or face a nationwide strike.

The ultimatum, which began on 27 August 2025, was contained in a communiqué released at the end of the union’s 77th General Executive Council meeting held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State.

The workers demanded the release of the new Scheme of Service, the constitution of the Renegotiation Committee for the 2010 Agreement, payment of all outstanding arrears, and the release of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 Needs Assessment Funds.

The communiqué, signed by SSANIP President, Philip Ogunsipe, and National Secretary, Shehu Gaya, accused the Federal Government of failing to honour agreements and neglecting the education sector.

“The Council in session reviewed its activities with the government on the following items: release of the new schemes and conditions of service; constitution of the renegotiation of the 2010 agreement committee; non-release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 Needs Assessment Fund; and payment of arrears such as promotion arrears, 25/35% salary review arrears, wage awards, and full implementation of the new minimum wage,” the communiqué stated.

It added that the union had exercised patience but expressed deep frustration with what it described as the government’s insincerity and lip service to previous agreements.

“Based on the above, the Union demands immediate action on the listed issues within twenty-one (21) days beginning from 27 August 2025, or we will have no option but to withdraw our services across the nation,” the communiqué concluded.
