Pope Leo XIV mourns victims of US shooting

Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday said he was “profoundly saddened” by a shooting at a United States church that left two children dead and 17 others injured.

The pontiff — the first American to lead the Catholic Church — expressed his condolences in a statement issued by the Vatican. He extended sympathy to “all those affected by this terrible tragedy, especially the families now grieving the loss of a child.”
