Presidency defends Tinubu’s reforms as Northern stakeholders endorse policy agenda

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has defended the administration’s economic reforms, describing them as “difficult but necessary” steps to prevent economic collapse and reposition Nigeria for long-term growth.

Dare spoke on Saturday during a Northern Stakeholders Town Hall meeting in Kaduna State organised by supporters of President Tinubu under the Tinubu Door-to-Door Movement, where participants also expressed support for the president’s possible re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, policies such as the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms were essential measures aimed at restoring fiscal stability and boosting investor confidence.

He added that despite the hardships faced by Nigerians, the reforms were already beginning to produce positive results.

Organisers of the engagement said the initiative was created to improve public understanding of government policies while providing an opportunity for grassroots stakeholders to give feedback.

National Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Sunday Adekanbi, explained that the forum was designed to strengthen communication between the government and citizens through direct discussions on governance and policy implementation.

Several speakers at the event reviewed the Tinubu administration’s policies, including infrastructure projects and social investment programmes.

Professor Solomon Gushibet, Head of the Centre for Financial Economics at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, also spoke on the economic impact of the federal government’s reforms and their long-term implications for national development.

Representing Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, highlighted what he described as the positive impact of petrol subsidy removal on states.

Maiyaki also linked the improving peace in previously troubled communities in Kaduna State to deliberate governance and security measures introduced by the state government.

Participants at the meeting stressed the need for continuity in government policies to ensure sustained economic stability and development, with several stakeholders backing Tinubu’s re-election in the interest of policy consistency.

Organisers added that similar town hall meetings would be held in other parts of the country ahead of the 2027 elections to maintain dialogue between the government and the public.
