The Presidency has offered an explanation for President Bola Tinubu’s three-week stay in Europe, saying the break is meant to help him recover from months of demanding official duties.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, disclosed this on Sunday while addressing journalists.
Dare said Tinubu had been occupied with matters of governance for roughly six to seven months, during which his administration made major policy decisions concerning the economy, national security and other areas.
“The President has had several months — six, seven months — of being engaged with state matters. We’ve seen monumental changes, monumental decisions taken with our security, with our economy and so many other things as pertains to the running of the affairs of this country,” he said.
He further explained that the President’s timing was influenced by the approaching 2027 election season, which is expected to bring a period of sustained political activities and campaigning.
According to Dare, Tinubu would need to balance the campaign period with his responsibilities as President, making the current break necessary for him to regain strength.
“And at this point, the campaign season has just started. We have four, five months of serious campaigning. Of course, governance will still continue,” Dare said.
Dare maintained that the President would remain abreast of developments in Nigeria and continue to oversee government affairs during his time away.
The trip comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the ruling All Progressives Congress expected to commence more vigorous campaign activities in the coming months.
