Tinubu sacks Shettima’s Special Assistant on Digital, Creative Economy

The presidency has confirmed the dismissal of Fegho John Umunubo, who served as Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy in the office of the vice-president.

The announcement was made on Monday through a statement issued by Abiodun Oladunjoye, director of information and public relations at the State House.

According to Oladunjoye, Umunubo’s removal takes immediate effect, and he no longer acts on behalf of the administration.

“Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that FEGHO JOHN UMUNUBO, who hitherto had served as the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been disengaged with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

“Kindly note that he no longer represents this administration in any capacity. Henceforth, anyone who interfaces with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at his or her own risk.”

Oladunjoye urged stakeholders and players in the digital and creative economy to take note of the directive.

Umunubo’s dismissal follows less than two weeks after a public dispute with Arese Ugwu, a writer and film producer, on Instagram.

Ugwu had accused him of “making false promises” on behalf of the federal government concerning the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises Programme (iDICE) and the N5bn Creative Fund Initiative.

She also claimed that Umunubo lacked the authority to strike deals with filmmakers and further alleged that he owes her N10 million.
