A notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Auwalu, has been killed following a violent confrontation between rival armed groups in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to Zagazola Makama, which focuses on security developments in the Lake Chad region, the clash occurred on Saturday around 4:35 pm in the Maganda forest corridor, an area known for recurring armed group activities.
Citing security sources, the report stated that Auwalu was a key figure within one of the factions, with strong influence across the Maganda, Kuyello, and Dogon Dawa axis.
The publication noted that the incident stemmed from an internal clash between rival groups, a conflict that has continued to intensify within forest communities in the area.
It further revealed that another faction, reportedly led by Dogo Gide, was mobilising towards the location, while casualties were recorded among the groups, although exact figures remain unclear.
Troops under sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma have since been placed on alert to monitor developments and prevent further escalation.
Security operations, including surveillance and intelligence-driven efforts, have also been strengthened across Birnin Gwari and surrounding communities to restore stability and curb the activities of armed groups.
The incident adds to growing concerns over increasing banditry and the spread of armed groups across parts of the country.
In a related development, another notorious bandit leader, Dogo Isah, was reportedly killed during a separate clash with a rival group in Kaduna State.
Isah had been linked to several high-profile attacks and was known for terrorising residents in Kachia and parts of Kajuru Local Government Area before his death in a confrontation reportedly linked to cattle rustling in January 2025.
