A Russian drone has crashed into an apartment building in Romania, causing a fire and injuring two people, according to the country’s defence ministry.
According to BBC, the incident, which occurred in Romania’s eastern city of Galati – close to the Ukrainian border – on Friday, was described by the country’s foreign ministry as a “serious and irresponsible escalation” from the Russian Federation.
The Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said the drone’s entire explosive payload detonated – prompting a fire within the building.
The emergency services said two people received medical treatment after suffering abrasions and around 70 people were evacuated as the fire was put out.
It’s not the first time that Russian drones have strayed across the border of the Nato member country during the four-year war with Ukraine, but this is the first time citizens from Romania have been hurt.
Russia is yet to comment on the incident.
