Sanwo-Olu gives illegal Lagos-Badagry occupants 72-hour quit notice

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to illegal occupants and operators along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, warning them to vacate the corridor ahead of a planned enforcement exercise.

The governor announced the directive after participating in the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which covered the Ojuelegba, Surulere and Kosofe areas.

Sanwo-Olu said the government would begin a large-scale demolition of illegal structures along the expressway, stressing that unapproved activities on the road corridor would no longer be tolerated.

He urged residents to support the government’s environmental efforts by keeping their surroundings clean, noting that achieving a cleaner Lagos requires collective responsibility.

To strengthen waste management, the governor disclosed that the state had procured an additional 150 compactor trucks to improve waste collection logistics across Lagos.

He also revealed that the government was developing a comprehensive landfill management plan to improve turnaround time for Private Sector Participation operators responsible for waste collection.

Sanwo-Olu appealed to residents to pay their waste disposal bills promptly and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, warning that poor waste disposal habits undermine the state’s environmental goals.

Announcing the enforcement action, he said, “From next week, we are coming to clear the entire median. Everything there will go,” reiterating the government’s commitment to restoring order along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
