Security personnel nab man for allegedly writing promotion exam for his father

A 33-year-old man, Mansur Musa, has been arrested for allegedly sitting for a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, a staff member of the FCT Fire Service.

Lere Olayinka, media aide to Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, alongside a video showing the incident.

Olayinka said security personnel deployed to the examination venue at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) premises in Abuja apprehended Musa.

“Today, being the third day of the promotion examination being conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission, 33-year-old Monsuru Musa was caught writing examination for his father, Musa Mohammed, who works in the FCT Fire Service,” Olayinka said.

According to Olayinka, Musa initially told the security personnel that his father was ill when questioned about why he was at the examination venue.

However, further checks reportedly showed that Musa’s father was also at the premises.

In the video, Musa admitted that his father had instructed him to sit for the promotion examination on his behalf.

When asked about his father’s age, Musa said he was between 67 and 68 years old.

His father, however, gave a different age, saying he would turn 60 in February 2027.

The father also told the security personnel that he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.

Olayinka said the man admitted to sending his son to write the examination for him and apologised for his actions.

He added that both men made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before they were handed over to the police for further investigation.

The incident happened during the ongoing promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission for civil servants in the territory.

The examination forms part of the commission’s promotion exercise for eligible staff.
