The Senate has endorsed seven nominees for positions on the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), with Dr Abdullahi Saidu emerging as the commission’s chairman.
The decision was reached during Wednesday’s plenary following the presentation of a screening report by Senator Kamarudeen Olalere, who represents Osun West and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
Alongside Saidu, the six other nominees approved by the lawmakers are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola.
Their confirmation followed a request submitted by President Bola Tinubu last month, seeking the Senate’s approval for their appointments to key government institutions.
The request was presented to lawmakers on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Finance for examination.
Akpabio had directed the committee to complete its review and submit its findings within two weeks to enable the Senate to consider the nominations.
